Thanks so much for visiting! I was inspired to start this blog after I discovered the encouraging community of bloggers in early 2010. I think it's wonderful that people are able to share their interests and passions with one another, no matter how far the distance! I've learned, grown, and cultivated amazing friendships by reading blogs, and hope that I'll be able to give back by contributing some inspiring words, thoughts and ideas of my own. :)
The purpose of Nourish and Flourish is to chronicle my journey through my 20's and share my passion for healthy living. After completing my undergraduate studies in 2008, I moved home to Boise, ID fo a year so that I could figure out what my next step would be. While I was home, I began taking prereqiuisite courses for graduate dietetics programs. However, grueling hours spent sutdying organic chemical bonds wasn't my thing, and I soon realized that a clinical, science-based career wasn't for me. I knew I wanted to work in health--primarily with people--so I began researching masters programs that would give me the tools to help others live happy, healthy, fulfilling lives.
I finally decided to return to my alma matter in Washington DC, to complete a masters in Health Promotion Management. I absolutely love the program, and am excited to be working and learning with people who share a similar interest in fitness, food, and health!
I am excited about the future, but am far from perfect and know that there will be plenty of twists and turns down the road. I try my best to live my life glorifying God, and trusting that wherever I end up is part of a greater plan. :)
Living out my faith involves a quest to maintain balance in my life. In the past, I had an unhealthy relationship with food and exercise, however I am so grateful for that challenging period in my life because it enabled me to develop a strong mind-body-spirit health philosophy. I believe that in order to reach optimal health--in other words, to FLOURISH--we need to NOURISH ourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually. If we do these things, we can find the balance that we all crave!
However, maintaining a “perfect” balance is unattainable because we’re human, but if we stay in tune with our physical, emotional and spiritual needs, we will experience REAL joy, health and happiness in life.
Over the past few years my philosophy about nutrition, relationships, faith and physical and emotional health has evolved tremendously! I hope to share some of the insights I've gained through my trials and triumphs, offer support to all of you, and turn to you for advice and encouragement as well!
